Why is the Wedding Ring on the Left Hand?
Did you ever wonder why the wedding ring is on the left hand? This is because, before the discovery of how the circulatory system actually worked, it was believed that a vein ran directly from the fourth finger on the left hand to the heart. Wedding etiquette’s experts of the times, made then this the rule.
In Latin this vein was called ” vena amoris”
This custom is still in use and the left hand has to be with no rings before the wedding ceremony. The debate is whether or not, place the engagement ring on the right hand during such celebration. For some it can be left on the right hand and then placed back on the left once the wedding ring takes its place.
For others, both hands should be with no rings at all, and the engagement ring put back on the left hand, only after the conclusion of the wedding ceremony.
